In 1996, this
Backyard
Broadcasting radio
facility started
with the
installation of
iMediaTouch at KELO AM and FM AIR studios.
Director of
Engineering Scott
Smidt built a
massive Novell Raid
5 server with a
total of 75GB Hot
Swap Storage Drives,
incorporated 17”
Touch Screens for
the Air studios
along with
bi-directional
Start/Stop
interfaces with the
Wheatstone air
consoles.
In 1998 two more
stations were
acquired and moved
into the Midco
facility. KRRO
(rock format) and
KWSN (Talk Radio).
The iMediaTouch
system was expanded
to accommodate the
new Air Studios with
the same monitors,
computers and audio
cards as KELO AM &
FM.
In 1999, the first
generation of
Windows iMediaTouch
software was
installed to upgrade
the facility and add
another station KTWB-FM (Country
Format) to the
digital server
system. The Control
rooms used
OpLOG-2000 On Air
software while the
Production rooms
installed the
MediaDISK-32
Production software
with CD ripping and
waveform editing.
Voice Tracking in
the AIR studios was
also added to help
voice the night
hours. The MediaBGR
background recorder
provided automatic
recording of
weather, traffic
reports and long
file satellite
programs.
The 3rd generation
of iMediaTouch
software was
installed in 2002
where Scott Smidt
replaced the Novell
server with a
Windows 2000 server.
LCD Touch Screens
were installed for
the iMediaTouch On
Air positions while
iMediaTouch
Production, Voice
Tracking and Log
Tools software was
installed at all key
Production,
Programming and
Voice Track
computers.
The iMediaTouch
centralized server
topology made
integration of new
formats simple and
easy.
