OMT covers it all for Miami Cluster

Lincoln Financial Media // Miama, FL

In the spring of 2005, Gary Blau, director of engineering for the Miami cluster of Lincoln Financial Media, began to upgrade the MediaTouch OpLOG-2000 system that was last upgraded in 1999.

The Miami facility and Project Coordinator John Morris are iMediaTouch’s longest running clients since their first installation of MediaTouch in 1986. This upgrade of iMediaTouch Ver 2.0 software and HP Hardware would now be the fifth generation of iMediaTouch technology at the JP Miami plant. The new system is also AES-EBU digital using ASI 5044 audio cards and all audio was trans-coded electronically and stored in the linear format.

Lite FM Studio - Miami, FL

The stations in the Miami cluster are WAXY(AM) LMA Prime Media – ESPN Sports, WMXJ(FM) oldies format and WLYF(FM) Lite 101.5-FM their #1 rated station in Miami.

Three air studios, two production rooms, twin iMediaLoggers, two iMediaAdcast content sub software, administrative workstations and centralized and replicated 1TB servers were provided by iMediaTouch in his three-station cluster upgrade. iMediaPix cart wall software was provided for WAXY – 780 Sports Ticket. For Internet streams, Gary Blau ordered some custom software development to provide for seamless triple server redundancy and On Air to support 8 discrete stereo play-outs into the Air studio consoles from the iMediaTouch system. Two 4 channel iMediaLoggers provided redundancy for 24/7 logging, mic skimming, Best of Show recording and Pod-Casting.

In the spring of 2005, after training of JP Miami programming and talent personnel was completed, the iMediaTouch system was commissioned by Senior Field Engineer Ron Taylor.

Tech Tip Tech Tip

XML & LMIV Outputs for ON-AIR

We have had many clients recently asking about XML and LMIV outputs for their ON-AIR applications for Internet streaming and commercial substitution.  One common question asked is:

“Why does the external or satellite audio not show up in the XML or LMIV file”?

A very good question indeed. The XML or LMIV output is based on the digital audio stored in the iMediaTouch system.  Any external feed brought in through a switcher or control surface will not contain this information as it is not playing from digital storage.

There is a simple and effective way to show this information exactly as you would like to have it displayed based in your log.  Simply record a few seconds of silence in iMediaTouch Production (around three or four) and save to the number and category of choice.

Once saved, open the cut and place an “EOM” about a half second from the start of the cut.  This will allow the cut information to be written and not present any appreciable “dead air” on your broadcast.  You can also associate “Album Art” for the show if desired just like you can for regular music entries.

To quickly make several copies of the same recording, highlight the entire 4 second cut and select “Save As”.  This will allow you to save the same audio under a different number and description.

In your log template or music system, schedule in the cut containing silence just prior to your first satellite or external feed audio event.  If you have 9 show segments, make 9 cuts containing the same audio and with the appropriate title and artist information.  Again, these would be placed directly in front of each corresponding scheduled satellite or external feed event.

This is what the XML output file will look like from the above log elements:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
- <PlayList>
  <Entry Event="00" Type="Played" Category="STR" Id="0000" Title="SEGMENT 1" Artist="JONES SATELLITE NETWORK" Album="" Composer="" MusicId="" Duration="4000" StartTime="Tue Nov 27 23:10:53 2007" />
  <Entry Event="01" Type="Played" Category="COM" Id="0000" Title="iMediaTouch" Artist="OMT Technologies" Album="" Composer="" MusicId="" Duration="52000" StartTime="Tue Nov 27 23:11:55 2007" />
  <Entry Event="02" Type="Played" Category="COM" Id="0000" Title="iMediaTouch" Artist="OMT Technologies" Album="" Composer="" MusicId="" Duration="52000" StartTime="Tue Nov 27 23:12:47 2007" />
  <Entry Event="03" Type="Played" Category="STR" Id="0001" Title="SEGMENT 2" Artist="JONES SATELLITE NETWORK" Album="" Composer="" MusicId="" Duration="4000" StartTime="Tue Nov 27 23:13:38 2007" />
  <Entry Event="04" Type="Playing" Category="COM" Id="0000" Title="iMediaTouch" Artist="OMT Technologies" Album="" Composer="" MusicId="" Duration="52000" StartTime="Tue Nov 27 23:14:40 2007" />
  </PlayList>

This should provide a simple and effective way to provide TTA (metadata) information for external or satellite events for your Internet XML stream requirements.
